Our last fill for this round!! Fill #12 (and Fill #11)

We made it! Yay! Charlie had his last fill yesterday with Dr. Hoffman. But we should back up a bit. Last Monday Kelly took Charlie for fill #11 by himself. It was the first time Kelly had taken him and it was nice for Mommy to have a break. Dr. Hoffman was out of town so the resident did the fill. Later that night I noticed there was puss coming out of the leaky port area. There was a scab over the port but puss was oozing of out the edges. The doctor on call called in antibiotics. He was on those all week. When we saw Dr. Hoffman yesterday he decided to fill the infected port (against my better judgement). That caused that port to leak all day wearing away the scab so then we could see the entire port in his head. He essentially has a gaping hole in his head. It then leaked worse than in the past all day yesterday. We lost a decent amount of fluid but luckily it scabbed up over night and hasn't been leaking much today, only when he cries which just puts pressure on his head. We will continue antibiotics until after surgery.

So we made it to 480 cc's on the front expander, 205 cc's in the middle back one and 175 cc's in the far back one.

Charlie's surgery is set for Friday May 16 at 12:20pm. We will check-in around 10am. Surgery should take 4-6 hours and we will stay overnight. We will have drains and a head wrap and then a post-op appointment on Mon or Tues. Dr. Hoffman did tell us to expect some dents in Charlie's skull which was surprising to me. In the past he said he liked to wait until 1 year to start surgery so their skull is hard enough to not dent with the pressure of the expanders but I guess he said he will have some dents. They will fill in over time but I'm sad to hear about the dents.

Anyway, here are some pics after fill #12.
