Small update from the biopsy

On Wednesday last week (just 2 days after the biopsy) I received a call from the doctor at UCSF. She explained that there is a lot of cell division going on in the bumps on Charlie's nevus. She said that she expected this because the cells multiplying and collecting are what create the bumps. But they want to do further testing to see exactly what these cells are doing and how they are dividing. This will indicate whether they are benign or malignant.

So once we get these new tests approved by our insurance it will take 3 weeks to get the results. The new tests are on a molecular level and they extract DNA so I guess that is why it will take so long.

And here is Charlie on Easter yesterday!

  1. Thanks for sharing and what a beautiful family. My son was born in July 2012, also has nevus on his scalp. Same side (right side) and similar shape (right side + 1/4 of the right forehead, just above the eye brow), a bit smaller but comparable.

I was worried at first as you, but I assure you it's going to be okay. He had done a first stage excision at 4 month (right along the hairline), got rid of 1/3 of the size, but skin was too tight to continue multiples. At 8 month now, he had expansion balloon in and we were told it will get rid of 90% of the mole by July or August and the last bit on the forehead, we need to wait till his hairline is clear and perform one / two excisions to get rid of it.

Stay strong, it will be gone before he remembers anything :)
